Spiced Ginger-Clove Immune Tea

The Wellness Benefits

Each ingredient in this tea brings a specific set of therapeutic properties to your mug:

  • Cloves (The Microbial Shield): As mentioned, cloves are exceptionally high in antioxidants and contain eugenol, which offers potent antimicrobial properties. This helps the body fight off unwanted pathogens and clears up throat congestion.
  • Ginger (The Warm Anti-Inflammatory): Ginger is famous for its active compound, gingerol. It acts as a natural anti-inflammatory and circulatory stimulant, helping to warm the body from the inside out. It is also excellent for settling a sensitive stomach and breaking up stubborn mucus in the respiratory tract.
  • Raw Honey (The Soothing Protector): Raw honey is much more than a natural sweetener. It acts as a demulcent, meaning it coats and calms an irritated, scratchy throat. It also contains natural enzymes and antibacterial properties that work synergistically with ginger and cloves to boost the immune response.

Spiced Ginger-Clove Immune Tea Recipe

Making this tea from scratch ensures you extract the volatile essential oils from the spices, giving you maximum potency.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of filtered water
  • 1-inch piece of fresh ginger root, washed and thinly sliced or grated (grating releases more juice)
  • 4 to 5 whole organic cloves
  • 1 tablespoon raw, unpasteurized honey (or to taste)
  • Optional: A squeeze of fresh lemon juice for an extra dose of Vitamin C

Instructions:

  1. Simmer the Spices: In a small saucepan, bring the 2 cups of water to a gentle boil. Add your sliced ginger and whole cloves.
  2. Let it Infuse: Turn the heat down to low, cover the pot with a lid (this keeps the beneficial steam and oils from escaping), and let it simmer for 10 to 15 minutes. The water will turn a beautiful golden-amber color.
  3. Strain: Turn off the heat and strain the liquid into your favorite mug, discarding the ginger pieces and clove buds.
  4. The Golden Rule for Honey: Allow the tea to cool for about 2 to 3 minutes until it is warm, but no longer boiling hot, before stirring in your raw honey. Why? Extreme heat destroys the live enzymes, antioxidants, and delicate beneficial properties of raw honey.
  5. Enjoy: Sip slowly, inhaling the aromatic steam to help open up your airways.

Best Times to Drink It

This tea is completely caffeine-free, making it an excellent ritual at any time of day. Try drinking a cup in the morning to stimulate digestion and awaken your circulation, or sip it in the evening to soothe your body and relax before bed.
